Basel is situated in Switzerland. It is located at the border of Germany and France. Basel offers an extremely international environment. Due to Basel being a border town, it is a very open minded city with cross-cultural influences. Not only is it a university town, with one of the oldest universities in Europe (founded in 1460), Basel is also a major hub for the life sciences in Europe. Through the international workforce located in Basel, including Novartis and Roche, there is a very sizeable expatriate community and English is spoken throughout the city.
